The Cambodian Children’s Fund was established in 2003 by Scott Neeson, then working as a film executive for a Hollywood studio. He served as President of 20th Century Fox International, and headed Sony Pictures’ International marketing department. He exited the film industry in 2004 to work full-time on the charity. He is now Executive Director and lives year-round in Phnom Penh. Neeson founded the CCF to aid the most impoverished of Cambodia’s children. Their plight is among the worst in the world. Cambodia’s recent history has been tragic, with the loss of an estimated 2 million lives (nearly 20% of the population) during Pol Pot’s brutal reign in the 1970’s, foreign incursions and civil war. Millions of land mines remain active today and are spread throughout the country. In March, 2006, CCF II: I Pinco Pallino Facility was officially opened by the benefactors, Imelde and Stefano Cavalleri. The facility is located 2 miles from Stoeng Meanchey, Phnom Penh’s notorious garbage dump. Two-thirds of the facility’s children were living and working as garbage pickers. With the funding provided by Imelde and Stefano Cavalleri, CCF II provides a comprehensive educational program, including local language reading and writing, English language instruction, computer and art. The vocational training program includes computer training, hairdressing, cosmetology, culinary arts and clothing design. CCF II provides 3 meals a day, shelter, clothing, and 24-hour security to all its students. An in house health care center provides children with blood testing, 24-hour medical treatment, dental services and each child is given an extensive vaccination program. In addition, all children are provided with a quality I Pinco Pallino uniform upon arrival. The children chosen for CCF II were at high risk for child prostitution and trafficking; they had no prior education; most had been exposed to domestic abuse. Because of the kindness and generosity of Imelde and Stefano Cavalleri, girls who would be otherwise without education, nutrition and job skills are now learning computer, studying English and preparing for their future in a new way |
